There are three ways in which to edit your family settings which means you need to make sure all three are correct in order for something to work. Your console contains the only option for changing the console family settins, as well as the first option for changing your xbox live family settings. If your parent or guardian created the account they may have put their email as the adult email attached so you would need them as well to access your xbl family settings. The second way is through xbox.com, you will need to enter account management after signing it to find these and you will also need the parent or guardians email. The third option which parents can only do is through xbox support, they can lock an accounts permissions to do certain things on xbox live. If you forget your family settings passcode you will need to call xbox support in order to get it reset with your console specific reset key ,and you will need a parent or guardian above the age of 18's help to do so.
